Closing the identity gap: a new film on our AI-powered biometrics in Ghana

Nat Geo vid still 1

Simprints are thrilled to share a powerful new short film from our long-standing partner, Arm. The video offers an intimate look at our work on the ground in Ghana, where we are deploying our AI-driven infant biometrics to ensure that no child, regardless of where they are born, misses out on life-saving healthcare.

A spotlight on the ‘missing link’ in healthcare

The film follows the journey of frontline health workers in rural Ghana. Globally, over 850 million people lack formal identification, a gap that often leads to lost medical records, interrupted treatments, and missed vaccinations.

In the video, you’ll see our biometric technology in action. In Ghana, our work is challenging current limitations by developing and scaling, for the first time, AI biometric models that work from birth. Powered by Arm’s power-efficient compute platform, our tool allows health workers to capture high-quality biometric markers, such as the face, ears, and feet, to create a digital health ID that ‘grows’ with the child. This ensures that every dose of the malaria vaccine reaches the right child at the right time.

Our impact in Ghana

This film is a celebration of a decade-long journey. Simprints was born out of a hackathon sponsored by Arm ten years ago. Since then, Arm has been a vital partner, providing the engineering expertise and technical mentorship needed to build tools that work in the world’s most challenging environments.

Alongside Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, this partnership has evolved into a powerful alliance and together, we are bridging the gap between advanced technology and the communities that need it most.

A partnership built on shared vision

As Simprints looks toward our global goal of reaching 20 million people by 2030, our work in Ghana remains at the heart of our mission. Our technology has now reached 517 clinics across the Eastern and Oti regions in Ghana, and we will continue to scale this coverage this year.

Moving forward, our work with Arm and Gavi will be the catalyst for reaching infants from birth, ensuring continuity of care from day one. This evolution is key to closing the immunisation gap and ensuring every person counts, right from the start.
